What is the 'W-8BEN Form' scam that I've been made aware of?

The W-8BEN form is a legitimate US tax exemption document.

Fraudsters try to use the W-8BEN form to gain personal information including your mother’s maiden name, passport number, date of birth, PIN numbers and passcodes.

The fraudulent form is received under the guise of anti-money laundering regulations and may (but not always) say they are writing from Barclays to review client information. It will request that you complete the form and include all your personal details.

Please note: We only ever ask for information relating to your passcode or memorable word when logging-in to your online banking. Therefore if you receive such a form, do not reply to it.
