How do I close my account?

You can now self-serve via Online Banking to Close an Account, by completing the following steps.

From the 'Home' screen:

  1. Click any tab at the top of your screen
  2. Click 'View all Online Services'
  3. You'll then see a complete list of everything you can do in Online Banking, scroll down to see more options
  4. Click 'Close an account'
  5. Select the dropdown to view a list of your accounts
  6. Select the account you would like to close - Click 'Continue'
  7. Scroll down as you carefully read your details - Click 'Continue'
  8. Choose the account you would like any interest to be transferred to - Click 'Continue'
  9. Scroll down as you carefully read your details - Click 'Continue'
  10. When you are happy - Click 'Submit request'
  11. Click 'Back to Homepage' to return to your Online Banking Homepage

You can also close your account(s) with us by telephone, secure online banking message or letter.

If you are planning to close an account, you can make some preparations ahead of contacting us that will make the process quicker:

  • Transfer out the remaining funds from your account (if you are moving funds internationally and the payment carries a charge, you can choose to debit the charge from the payment amount instead of the account)
  • Stop using any debit cards attached to the account
  • Ask for any debits/credits to be made from/to your new account

Once the account is at a nil balance, and you know that no further debits/credits will be made, you can call us or if you have online banking you can send a secure message to close the account.

The account closing process can take up to five working days from the date your request is processed.
